The GlycoCalyx Research Institute

Measure. Restore. Verify.

Thank you for scanning our poster, “Integrating Microvascular Glycocalyx Assessment into Lifestyle Medicine.” We are the scientists and clinicians behind it. Here is who we are, what we make, and the research it all rests on.

Who we are

Twenty years of glycocalyx science, made practical

The GlycoCalyx Research Institute was founded in 2012 by vascular scientist Dr Hans Vink and Robert Long to turn glycocalyx research into tools clinicians can use. We teach, we keep a library of the peer-reviewed research, and we develop nutraceuticals whose effect can be measured. Our sister company GlycoCheck brings Dr Vink’s measurement system to US clinics; both sit within Genesis Health Sciences.

Started down this road after his own health scare in 2009, and has spent fifteen years turning the science into clinical practice. Co-author of the poster.

What we do

Why the glycocalyx

Most of your circulation is too small to see

Heart and arteries get the attention. The exchange of oxygen and nutrients happens in the microvessels, and every one of them is lined with the glycocalyx.

1%

The heart and large vessels: the plumbing that carries blood toward the tissue.

99%

The microvessels, lined with the endothelial glycocalyx, where delivery to every cell actually happens. As the layer thins, delivery fails first, often long before a standard test finds anything.

  • 60,000miles of vessels lined by the glycocalyx
  • 10,000square feet: the body’s largest surface
  • 40+the age at which capillary loss accelerates
  • 20+years of glycocalyx research behind our work

The paper on our poster

Why we measure before we restore

Six years, 600 people, one measurement. A damaged glycocalyx predicted heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death beyond every conventional risk factor.

The research behind the poster

Impaired Endothelial Glycocalyx Predicts Adverse Outcome in Subjects Without Overt Cardiovascular Disease: a 6-Year Follow-up Study

Ignatios Ikonomidis et al. · Journal of Cardiovascular Translational Research, published online October 28, 2021

600adults without overt cardiovascular disease
6 yrsof follow-up after one GlycoCheck™ measurement
4.7×the risk with a damaged glycocalyx, on top of SCORE (HR 4.71)
6.4×in the model adjusted for conventional risk factors (HR 6.44)

Major adverse cardiovascular events: cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction and stroke; 57 occurred during follow-up. Net reclassification improvement 39.7%; C-statistic 0.653 to 0.693 (p < 0.01). The glycocalyx was measured as the perfused boundary region (PBR) in sublingual vessels 5–25 µm across. ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04646252. The journal article is subscription access; our page carries the full abstract and a link to it.

Questions & answers

Questions we are often asked

How is ReVasca™ taken?

Capsules: four a day, ideally two in the morning and two in the afternoon or evening, with or without food. Drink mix: one scoop a day. Each single is a 30-day supply. Full Supplement Facts and directions.

What is in ReVasca™?

Seven actives in one blend: L-citrulline, fucoidan, ViNitrox® apple and grape polyphenols, Vascaman™ organic inner-leaf aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, catalase and superoxide dismutase. It contains soy (from the SOD) and is non-GMO, gluten-free and vegan.

Is ReVasca™ tested for banned substances?

Yes. Both the capsules and the drink mix are Informed Sport certified, so every batch is screened for substances banned in sport before release.

How do I know whether it is working?

Measure it. A GlycoCheck™ reading before you start and again after about three months shows the change in your own vessels rather than leaving you to guess. Find a test location.

I take medication. Can I take ReVasca™?

Please check with your healthcare professional first, as the label advises for anyone who is pregnant, nursing, taking medication or under medical supervision.

Can my practice offer ReVasca™ to patients?

Yes. Get in touch about practitioner and affiliate accounts.
